Education Notes and Awards
Our education working group has held a few meetings this summer to focus on Public Education in our City and the outcomes and considerations. A few notes of interest:
- As part of this year’s annual budget process, the City Council approved the education departments funding request. Members of our organization attended the contentious Council meeting and ‘Wore Red for Ed’ in support of public schools, students and teachers. While we understand the concern regarding outcomes and scores the budget conversation was a disappointing spectacle that we’d be happy to discuss with any of members.
- Good News for NPS We’d like to congratulate our friend and neighbor Taylor Rock for being selected as Teacher of the Year Taylor is a science teacher at Thompson Middle School and his talent and enthusiasm are really appreciated.
- Rogers High School ended another impressive year. Graduates are attending many prestigious and competitive 2 and 4 year colleges/universities- from Texas A&M to Brown to Fordham University to Drexel. Rogers also had an appointment to the US Naval Academy along with Massachusetts Maritime Academy, more of their stories HERE. We are also especially proud of our Career Technical Education students that are going into careers immediately in cosmetology, construction, and hospitality.
